Went snowshoeing at Lodgepole Lake forestry recreation site today. The weather had warmed up a bit to -7C so it was time to get out. The road was well plowed all the way from Lac le Jeune road to the parking lot, and there were a few snowmobiles and people ice fishing. We took the trail around the lake, using the high trail which doesn't hug the shore. It was a beautiful day to be in the woods. Met a couple at campsite #1 who were enjoying a campfire and spend months a year enjoying this park. Took a trip across the frozen lake, stopping at a disused ice fishing hole to see that the ice is over 8 inches thick. We use MSR Lightning Axis show shoes which we purchased several years ago. I believe they have been replaced with a Lightning Ascent model. What we particularly like is the saw tooth grips on the sides and the toe claw for gripping in icy conditions. We also use downhill ski poles that have a good size basket on the end. Highly recommend this park for a winter outing whether you're out for snowshoeing or just want to have a nice view and campfire.
