Mount Embleton hike is always great but particularly so when the wildflowers are in bloom as they were today. There are many routes to take which all include some steep sections (not hazardously so but a good test of your cardio) to get to the gazebo at the summit. To get there travel on the Heffley Louis Creek road up to Sun Peaks. You drive 18.5 km after turning towards Sun Peaks from Highway 5. There are two trail starting points; we use the second one. It has a small parking area just off the road on the left hand side with a sign. You hike up the road to P1 parking which you can see on the map included here. We chose Old Mills trail which goes by the remains of 5 sawmills from many years ago. All that remains of these are the stacks of waste wood, one of which is in a photo below. It eventually joins up with Fence Trail which will lead you up to the gazebo where there are great views of the area including Heffley Lake. A great side trip is to take Skyline Trail which follows the rocky cliffs more closely.

The late, cool spring we've experienced in the Kamloops area resulted in great wildflowers later that usual.
